Colon Hydrotherapy Sessions: Your Guide to Safe, Comfortable Colonics

The Basics

Understanding Colon Hydrotherapy

What is Colon Hydrotherapy?

Colon Hydrotherapy sessions, also known as a colonic, colon irrigation, or high enema, is a gentle method for cleansing the lower part of the large intestine without drugs. Colonics offers an effective way to promote overall well-being and digestive health.

Why Cleanse the Colon?

Colon Hydrotherapy Sessions

The colon, essential for waste removal and nutrient absorption, affects overall health. A clean colon supports proper digestion, immunity, and vitality. When waste accumulates, the body may experience various symptoms like fatigue, headaches, abnormal breath and body odor, allergies and digestive issues.

Trust & Standards

Safety, Equipment & Sanitation

Are Colonics Safe?

Yes, colon hydrotherapy sessions are considered safe when performed by trained professionals using modern, sanitary equipment. Our therapists are certified by the highly reputable International Association for Colon Hydrotherapy (I-ACT). Therapists are formally trained in anatomy, protocol procedures, hygiene, and safety.

What about Sanitation?

All clients are issued single-use, sterile nozzles (speculums) and tubing which prevent infection and cross-contamination. After each client, all reusable equipment and surfaces are sanitized with hospital disinfecting protocols. These thorough cleaning procedures ensure safety and hygiene for every client.

What is an Open Colonic System?

Our open colonic systems are comfortable and are operated in privacy. Therapists aid the process to promote relaxation and optimal results. There is NO odor!

  • Our facility is equipped with LIBBE and Angel of Water Open Systems to create a comfortable experience that meets the different needs of our clients. Both systems are classified by the FDA as Class II medical devices.

  • Our water temperature is carefully monitored, and our filtration system is maintained monthly, allowing for irrigation with purified, double filtrated water making it safe and comfortable. Filtered and UV sterilized water is introduced through a small rectal tube, softening waste for elimination through natural muscle movements.

What To Expect

Your Session Experience

How Long Does a Session Take?

A typical visit lasts about 60 minutes, including approximately 45-50 minutes on the colonic table.

How Many Sessions are Needed?

Frequency varies by individual goals. We can help guide you based on your needs. It is suggested that 6 colonics should be done close together.

  • Three within the first 7-10 days and then one colonic per week for 3 weeks.
  • One or two per month can then be followed up for maintenance.

What Happens During Colon Hydrotherapy Sessions?

Clients are treated with respect and comfort. The session is conducted in a serene, private room environment with aromatherapy and calming music. Our staff will answer your questions without pressure or vague language.

We clearly explain:

  • What happens during the session
  • What sensations or side effects to expect
  • Possible risks and contraindications
  • What follow-up care or symptoms to watch for afterward (e.g., hydration needs)

What Actually Comes Out?

Hands forming a heart shape over the stomach with a daisy
  • Stool (of course)
  • Gas
  • Mucus (from intestinal walls)
  • Older compacted waste (sometimes darker)
  • Fermentation foam or bubbles

This is normal and varies widely.

Getting Ready

Before & After Your Session

How Should I Prepare for a Session?

It’s recommended to eat light meals, stay hydrated, and avoid heavy or processed foods beforehand. To enhance the session’s effectiveness, it’s advised to drink plenty of water and ideally avoid eating two hours prior. However, an easily digestible meal may be eaten one hour beforehand.

After Care

Post colonic session, refrain from eating for an hour; then a light, easily digestible meal will support optimal results.

Contraindication Policies

As an I-ACT certified center, we screen and may refuse treatment if Health History conditions are contraindicated. These often include:

  • Recent abdominal or colorectal surgery
  • Severe hemorrhoids or rectal bleeding
  • Heart, kidney, or blood pressure issues
  • Pregnancy
  • Gastrointestinal infections

The Bottom Line on Colon Hydrotherapy Sessions
